Asda goes vertical

Asda goes vertical
Asda has introduced a new range of salad products grown in vertical farms.

This approach to salad production is aimed at improving sustainability and reducing environmental impact.

Asda's new salad range is cultivated using significantly less water compared to traditional farming methods and is powered entirely by renewable energy sources.

Located in Gloucestershire, these vertically farmed salads will be available online and in 270 Asda stores across the country.

Vertical farming involves growing plants in stacked trays under controlled conditions, utilising nutrient-rich solutions, temperature control and artificial lighting to enable year-round crop production while reducing water and chemical usage.

Dom Edwards, Asda Produce Director, said: "We’re delighted to be the first British retailer supplying a vertically farmed bagged salad range at this kind of scale, enabling customers to buy nationally and online."
