Net Zero is a huge challenge. But it is a challenge to which we are equal says Energy Minister

Energy Minister Kwasi Kwarteng has said Coronavirus will not derail government plans to tackle climate change and its net zero agenda.

Speaking in the video address to open our Energy Live Xpo, Mr Kwarteng has told the business community there would be a new energy white paper next year and the government is committed to tackling the immediate issue of the decarbonisation of heat, despite the current pressures to keep on the path to change.

He said: "We will continue to build on this to deliver a stronger greener and more sustainable economy after the pandemic, We can't do this alone we are relying on experts such as yourselves and discussions such as these, to drive forward the agenda along our path to net zero."

Watch his whole speech above.

And do login all week for the mix of great content we have. Obviously we regret Covid-19 has stopped us all meeting like we normally do.

Zoom fatigue?

And I appreciate many of you are probably suffering from 'zoom' fatigue! But if you can, please do watch the sessions, as I do think they can help you navigate these tough times.

We start on Monday morning, with a great case study from Sky, as Fiona Ball the head of its 'Bigger Picture' programme of decarbonisation, explains their ambitions around scope 3 supply chains. And later on Monday you can hear from the CEO of Ofgem, Jonathan Brearley on his plans for the regulator in facilitating net zero activities.

On Tuesday you can hear from Tim Gould from the IEA who is principal author of its annual World Energy Outlook and on Thursday, one of the biggest voices of the green movement for 50 years, Jonathon Porritt will join me for a chat and his hopes for a better future.

Help for issues you face now

Add to these headline sessions, NINE sessions from our sponsors covering a plethora of issues vital to your business, a chance to 'virtually network' with an energy expert and five sessions to end the week as part of our 10x10 series, exploring everything from storage to planetary democracy and I hope you'll find something worth attending.

You can register on the event page for each session you wish to attend. Just make sure you use Google Chrome for all our video sessions. Remember.. It's all FREE as well.
