Yorkshire Water inks wind farm electricity deal

Yorkshire Water has secured a power purchase agreement for electricity from the Strathrory wind farm in the Scottish Highlands, currently under construction.

The wind farm, consisting of seven turbines, is expected to generate approximately 100,000MWh annually starting late 2025.

This move aligns with Yorkshire Water's strategy to increase self-generated electricity and source renewable energy domestically.

The Strathrory Wind Farm is projected to meet around 17% of Yorkshire Water's annual power needs, helping reduce exposure to energy price fluctuations and operational costs.

Daniel Oxley, Yorkshire Water Commercial Programme Manager, said: "This project is a significant step in reaching our aims of carbon net zero by 2030 and supports our strategy of generating more of our own electricity and buying UK-generated renewable energy."
