Meta’s data centre to be powered by renewable energy

Meta has announced its data centre in Arizona will soon be powered by renewable energy.

It will be supported by solar energy from Salt River Project (SRP) through a contract with Ørsted.

Meta will receive the majority portion of solar energy generated from its Eleven Mile Solar Centre – a 300MW solar farm and a 300MW battery storage system, which is currently under construction in Pinal County.

Once online in 2024, it is expected to be the largest solar and battery project on SRP's power grid.

The solar and storage energy not needed by the Meta data centre will be provided to SRP's customers.

Urvi Parekh, Meta's Head of Renewable Energy said: “We are proud to partner with SRP to bring new solar energy to the grid. Access to renewable energy and a strong, reliable grid were an important part of our decision to build in Mesa.

“Meta is committed to having a positive impact on local communities and we're excited to help bring this additional investment and jobs to the area.”
