Engineers with career gaps break into green jobs market

Renewed partnership between SSE and employment consultants, STEM Returners, will help engineers with career gaps to find jobs in the renewables job market.

This is the third 'returnship' programme between the companies, after two previous schemes enabled 20 professionals return to work.

It is estimated that around 200,000 new workers will be needed to deliver UK’s net zero plans. The programme will help fill this gap.

Research from STEM Returners shows that those with a gap in their employment face significant recruitment bias.

Natalie Desty, Director of STEM Returners said: “The number of green energy roles is growing across the sector and there is a hidden workforce that can help fill those roles but are often overlooked.

“We are very proud to be continuing our strong partnership with SSE to return highly skilled people back into the industry they love."
