Wales considering setting earliest net zero target

Wales is considering becoming the country with the most ambitious net zero emissions target – cutting its greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions to zero by 2035.

This date is 10 years earlier than Scotland and 15 years earlier than the overall UK goal.

The Welsh government is currently seeking independent advice to ‘examine potential pathways to net zero by 2035’ and will work with the Climate Change Committee (CCC) to plot its journey.

Wales has also joined the international group, Beyond Oil and Gas Alliance, which currently has 10 national and regional governments as members – following the country’s endorsement to stop licensed oil and gas production.
