Ohio-based IGS Energy aims to become carbon-neutral by 2040

Ohio-based IGS Energy has made a commitment to become a carbon-neutral energy provider by 2040.

The first major step it is taking to achieve the goal is by providing 100% renewable electricity and carbon-neutral natural gas to all new residential customers.

Over the next decade, IGS Energy intends to introduce more sustainable and efficiency-focused products for its business customers as well as develop smart technologies.

The energy supplier will also reduce direct and indirect emissions from its operations and customer products and services “as much as possible” and offset any remaining emissions.

It will buy carbon offsets and Renewable Energy Certificates (RECs) from verified sustainability projects worldwide.

Scott White, President and CEO of IGS Energy said: "Energy companies have an obligation to be the driving force toward a sustainable energy future and this is just one of many actions we are taking to meet that obligation.

"People want to be responsible energy consumers and it is incumbent on the industry to give them the resources to take charge of their own energy consumption for energy independence and a healthier planet."
