Majority of Swiss consumers back 2050 carbon-neutrality goal

The majority of Swiss consumers are in favour of the country's 2050 carbon-neutrality goal, although 55% of them think that the energy transition is progressing too slowly.

That's according to the latest Swiss Consumer Barometer of Renewable Energy, which was conducted by the Institute for Economy and the Environment at the University of St. Gallen.

The survey suggests the strongest support for the net zero goal comes from young respondents below 30 years of age.

Regarding the existing awareness about charging options for electric vehicles (EVs), 68% of Swiss consumers say they would not know where to charge an EV at work or at home.

Despite this, among respondents interested in buying a car in the next five years, 51% would choose a battery EV as their first or second preference.

Findings of the survey have also showed significant gender differences, with women appearing to take longer than men to become attracted by EVs.

While the interest for electric mobility is relatively high, knowledge gaps persist, as only 60% of the respondents think that EVs significantly help to reduce carbon dioxide emissions.
