DHL goes green: £16m boost for electric airport fleet

DHL Express UK has announced a £16 million investment in electric ground service equipment at East Midlands Airport over three years.

The initiative aims to introduce 100 electric vehicles, including tugs, 'nose lifter' vehicles, high-loaders and electric belt-loaders, to achieve a fully electric airside operation by 2032.

This investment is part of DHL's broader commitment to sustainability and follows recent initiatives in sustainable aviation fuel and fuel-efficient aircraft.

The timing coincides with the busy Christmas period, during which East Midlands Airport anticipates handling over one million items each night.

Additionally, DHL is allocating an extra £7 million to replace and enhance non-electric ground support equipment, contributing to the company's efforts to reduce emissions.
