Companies in Ireland that are contributing to international renewable energy research projects have been awarded government funding totalling €500,000 (£43,131).
The Sustainable Energy Authority of Ireland (SEAI) is providing the grant for four projects that are part of the Clean Energy Transition Partnership joint funding call worth €88 million (£76m), involving 46 national and regional funding partners across 30 countries.
They include WECHULL+, which focuses on sustainable concrete material for improved substructures in offshore renewable technologies with CETO Wave Energy Ireland and SEASNAKE+, which focuses on surface protection and condition monitoring for medium voltage undersea cables with Ocean Wave Venture.
In addition, the projects supported by SEAI include SMART-LEM, which aims to develop a business model-oriented platform with applications for developing local electricity markets with Open Sky Data Systems and WAMTEC, which is examining cost-effective high-efficiency silicon technologies for solar PV with Ultra High Vacuum Solutions.
Kerrie Sheehan, Head of Research and Technology at SEAI said: “I am delighted that we can facilitate Irish participation in trans-national research projects by providing funding and support. International projects such as these establish new alliances and address challenges encountered in the move to clean energy.”
