Statkraft buys majority stake in Swedish EV charging company

Norwegian utility Statkraft has agreed to buy a 51% stake in Swedish electric vehicle (EV) charging company Bee Charging Solutions.

Existing shareholders Öresundskraft, Jämtkraft and Tekniska Verken will keep a 49% stake, with the closing of the deal expected to take place in the second quarter of 2021.

Together with Statkraft's existing Swedish charging business Grøn Kontakt, Bee will now become one of the biggest operators of EV chargers in Sweden with a new company name - Mer Sweden.

Bee currently has more than 2,000 public charging points in Sweden, with an estimated market share of 15% - 20%.

Mer Sweden will now be integrated into Mer's portfolio of charging companies in Norway, Germany and the UK.

Kristoffer Thoner, CEO of Mer said: “I look forward to taking on the task and together with the rest of the organisation as well as our new colleagues in Bee, creating the best and most consumer-oriented electric car charging company in Europe.”
