Southampton City Council goes green with Renault electric vans deal

Southampton City Council (SCC) has received 24 electric vans to decarbonise its fleet operations.

The local authority ordered the zero-emission vehicles from Renault in a bid to make the city greener and contribute to the goal of a 90% zero-emission fleet by 2030.

The new vans will replace existing diesel vans in SCC’s fleet and will be used by a variety of services including its waste operations teams.

Councillor Steve Leggett, Cabinet Member for Green City and Place, commented: "Addressing road transport emissions by reducing the numbers of vehicles on our roads and encouraging drivers to switch to hybrid and electric vehicles is an essential part of our overall strategy.

"The Renault vans increased battery range offered by this latest generation means our services are not interrupted to accommodate charging needs."
