BlackBerry pledges to reach carbon-neutrality by 2021

BlackBerry has announced it will become carbon-neutral by 2021.

The company, which has reduced its carbon dioxide emissions by 88% since 2013, also plans to help secure global access to clean water by investing in a wastewater treatment technology project in Canada, which aims to eliminate the environmental impact of pouring raw wastewater into canals, rivers and the sea.

The firm also plans to stop using single-use plastics globally by 2021, ahead of the Canadian Government's plan.

Navdeep Bains, Canadian Minister of Innovation Science and Industry, commented: "When Canadian companies invest in clean technology projects like BlackBerry is doing in the water sector, it not only helps to protect the environment and grow our economy, it also improves access to some of our most basic needs.

"Clean technology and renewable energy projects are key to helping Canada achieve our goal of net zero emissions by 2050."
