Arizona State University named ‘most sustainable university in US’

Arizona State University (ASU) has been named the most sustainable university in the US.

The United Nations Sustainable Development Goals rankings are based on 17 different categories, including clean energy, poverty, health and well-being - the Times Higher Education magazine put together a list of what higher education facilities around the world come closest to delivering these goals.

ASU ranked fifth worldwide after scoring 96.3 out of 100 points in this year's rankings, with only three other American universities placing in the top 100 - the university's global ranking is a large jump up from last year's 35th place.

Michael Crow, ASU President, said: "This is more than a target to motivate behaviour, this is a commitment Arizona State University has made to demonstrate that sustainability is achievable.

“As an emerging service university, we are designed to be adaptive, nimble and skilled in leveraging ideas and technology to create impactful solutions to complex global challenges, and take responsibility for continuing to move this pioneering work further every day.”
