‘It’s more important than ever before for businesses to assess and reduce environmental impacts’

It is now more important than ever before for businesses to start looking at the impact of their emissions and begin driving towards net zero progress.

That's the suggestion from Ian Brothwell, Managing Director of Bryt Energy, who spoke to future Net Zero Editor Jonny Bairstow about the importance of acting quickly to guarantee future sustainability, resiliency and ultimately, longevity.

He said: "Going forward, the challenge to become sustainable is increasing so much that investors are going to be mindful of a company's sustainability credentials when they're looking where to invest their money in the future, and if businesses don't adapt quickly to a net zero carbon world, then undoubtedly they could get left behind.

"They'll increasingly struggle to compete or even survive due to all these pressures - it's difficult for many growing businesses to balance profits with the investments in sustainability, even more so in the current situation where many businesses are struggling with the COViD-19 situation, some businesses even struggling to survive."

Bryt Energy offers 100% renewable energy supply to businesses, which it states have the greatest impact and a clear responsibility to make change happen.

Ian highlighted that in the UK, one of the biggest sources of greenhouse gas emissions is energy supply, with the sector contributing more than 26% of the country's overall emissions in 2019.

He said the company's Bryt By Nature programme aims to ensure the business has a positive impact on society as a whole, "from the customers and partners it works with and the staff that deliver its vision to the communities and ecosystems across the planet it exists within".

Ian explained: "Bryt by Nature is a programme that we've designed to deliver our sustainability commitments within our own business at Bryt and beyond."
