Consultation opens on liquid waste to energy

The government has opened a consultation to explore new rules and requirements for converting bioliquids and waste into energy.

It seeks views from across the UK on implementing the EU’s new sustainability requirements for power of this kind being generated under the Renewables Obligations (RO) scheme.

The consultation aims to update legislation to ensure substances cannot be intentionally modified or contaminated to be classed as waste.

The requirement for certain bioliquids to meet 60% minimum greenhouse gas emission savings compared to fossil fuel in order to receive RO support will also be amended.

This consultation closes
