EU imposes China, Taiwan with steel anti-dumping duties

The European Commission has decided to impose anti-dumping measures on two steel products from China and Taiwan.

Its investigation confirmed Chinese and Taiwanese stainless steel tube and pipe butt-welding fittings had been sold in Europe at dumped prices.

The products are used to join pipes and tubes of stainless steel and are commonly used in various industries such as energy generation and construction, petrochemical, food processing as well as shipbuilding.

Exports from China will now be taxed with duties ranging from 30.7% and 64.9% while those from Taiwan will face duties of 5.1% to 12.1%.

The Commission said it has “an unprecedented number of trade defence measures in place targeting unfair imports of steel products”.

Out of 39 anti-dumping and anti-subsidy measures, 17 of which are products originating from China.
