New energy plan is a Turkish delight

Turkey is set to get closer to its 2023 energy targets.

That’s because of support from the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) and the Turkish Ministry of Energy.

A new “National Energy Action Plan” has been created to meet the country's targets as part of its future energy mix.

Turkey’s renewable energy target is to develop 30% of its total installed capacity from renewable sources. They plan to do this by adding 34GW of hydropower, 20GW of wind energy, 5GW of solar energy and 1GW of geothermal and biomass.

The country also aims to use 10% of energy from renewables for its transport sector.

Minister of Energy and Natural Resources, Taner Yildiz, said: “Turkey will continue increasing energy generation from its domestic resources, including from renewable sources such as hydro, wind, geothermal and biomass.

“Renewable energy is one of the key elements of the policy and strategy which shape Turkey’s energy agenda,” he added.
