Siemens wins turbine order for Google-backed wind farm

Engineering giant Siemens has secured a turbine order for a 182MW wind power project in Texas.

The Pandhandle II wind farm was bought by Google for $75 million (£46m) earlier this month, which will be built by Pattern Energy Group will generate enough electricity to power around 56,000 homes.

It will consist of 79 turbines which will be supplied by Siemens starting March this year, with commissioning scheduled for November. The engineering firm will also service and maintain the turbines.

Mike Garland, CEO of Pattern Energy said: "These American-made Siemens turbines will harness the power of the wind at one of the windiest sites in Texas, creating a strong new source of clean energy without using any of the region's limited water supplies."
