Scottish social enterprises to receive £5m boost in net zero journeys

Social Investment Scotland (SIS) has joined forces with Zero Waste Scotland (ZWS) to launch a £5 million fund to support Scotland’s social enterprises on their journey to net zero.

This includes Scottish charities and community organisations – who will receive financial help to reduce their waste, energy consumption, adopt circular economy business models and greener transport.

The funding will include loans starting from £10,000 and grants of up to £20,000 and is part of the Scottish government’s £30 million third sector growth fund announced last March.

Head of Investments at SIS, Chris Jamieson, said: “These organisations have a key role to play in ensuring that this transition is fair and just, due to their ability to deliver social and environmental impact.

“However, their ambitions are often constrained by the limited resources at their disposal. The Social Enterprise Net Zero Transition Fund will provide finance to support these ambitions, helping Scotland’s third sector adopt earth-friendly practices while contributing products and services to address one of society’s biggest challenges.”
