COP26: ‘Mobile technology can help us achieve net zero’ – but how?

“Mobile technology is one of the technologies that can certainly help us achieve net zero”.

That’s the view of Mats Granryd, Director General of the GSMA - an association that represents some of the world’s largest mobile operators.

He explained how the sector is developing and the role it can have in a more sustainable future if deployed properly.

“If we take mobile technology and deploy it correctly – through energy supply, through transportation, through business, buildings and manufacturing – we are able to save up to 4% of global carbon emissions.”

“We will be much more connected. We will have a huge amount of help from the connectivity, you will have AI tools to better predict what’s going to happen and therefore you can make a better decision. The decision will always be with you but AI will help you.”

What is the mobile and technology industry doing to cut down its carbon footprint, how is it addressing the digital divide across the planet and why can it become key in the net zero transition?
