Volkswagen EV sales more than double in first half of 2021

The Volkswagen Group has more than doubled its deliveries of electric vehicles (EVs) in the first half of the year.

Up until the end of June this year, it delivered 170,939 EV models worldwide, more than twice the amount sent out in the same period last year.

Its demand for plug-in hybrid vehicles also more than tripled in this period to 171,300.

EV sales in China and the US accounted for 21.5% of its worldwide EV sales, with Europe making up a staggering 74.9% of these.

Christian Dahlheim, Head of Group Sales, commented: “Our global electric offensive continues to make good progress and customer demand is high.

“This year, we plan to deliver around one million EVs for the first time and are confident that we will meet the fleet targets for carbon emissions in Europe.”
