The BBC Director-General has discussed plans for the corporation to reach net zero by 2030.

Tim Davie, in a new speech to staff, in a webcast, said: “For many reasons, we have not set a net zero target before and I think we needed to. So this is now a commitment and we are going to go after it.”

He added that every department of the corporation must dial up the focus on sustainability.

A new decarbonisation strategy across the organisation is expected to be introduced later this year.

In February 2017, the BBC announced that all of its TV programmes within the factual, comedy, drama, entertainment and daytime genres will have to track their carbon footprint.

The corporation had launched earlier a carbon calculator tool after a partnership with albert.
