Nikola Motors lands order of 2,500 battery-electric waste trucks

American zero-emission vehicle manufacturer Nikola Motors has announced it has received an order of 2,500 battery-electric waste trucks from the waste collection company Republic Services.

The refuse trucks are expected to drive up to 150 miles and handle 1,200 bins on a single charge.

The firm says it is the largest single order in the US waste industry and notes Republic Services has the option to expand it to up to 5,000 vehicles.

Nikola will begin full production deliveries in 2023 with on-road testing likely to begin in early 2022.

Nikola Founder and Executive Chairman Trevor Milton said: "The refuse market is one of the most stable markets in the industry and provides long-term shareholder value."
