DfT seeks views on proposed regulations for fast-tracked e-scooter trials

During the trial period, the riders will need to hold either a provisional or full UK driving licence and will not be required to wear cycle helmets

The Department for Transport (DfT) has launched a consultation to speed up e-scooter rental trials across the country.

To support a green restart of local transport and help mitigate reduced public transport capacity, e-scooter trials will be brought forward next month.

During trials, e-scooters will have a 12.5mph speed limit and are required to be covered by a motor vehicle insurance policy.
