The Department for Transport (DfT) has launched a consultation to speed up e-scooter rental trials across the country.
To support a green restart of local transport and help mitigate reduced public transport capacity, e-scooter trials will be brought forward next month.
During trials, e-scooters will have a 12.5mph speed limit and are required to be covered by a motor vehicle insurance policy.
The riders will need to hold either a provisional or full UK driving licence and will not be required to wear cycle helmets.
In a statement, the Department for Transport, said: “E-scooters could be a fast and clean way to travel that eases the burden on the transport network and allows for social distancing."
