Zero emissions EV manufacturing plant lands creates 600 new jobs in Coventry

An automotive design and manufacturing company has sealed a new deal with an electric vehicle (EV) manufacturer from Minsk, Belarus which will create 600 new jobs by establishing a zero emissions manufacturing plant in Coventry.

The deal between CAD CAM Automotive and BKM Holding will see the establishment of a zero emissions EV manufacturing plant in the UK.

The two businesses have agreed to start the production of an initial 300 electric buses early next year, which will reach up to 800 buses annually by 2025.

The launch of the 300 series electric bus is expected at the Euro Bus Expo 2020 at the NEC in Birmingham in November.

The two businesses, which agreed on an investment of £300 million over the next five years, will also collaborate on a hydrogen fuel cell powered electric delivery van which is due to be launched in the UK next year.

Jonathan Browning, Chairman of the Coventry and Warwickshire Local Enterprise Partnership, said: “This major investment and job creation underlines Coventry and Warwickshire’s leading position in the UK within the automotive sector."

Ann Lucas, Leader of Coventry City Council, said: “CAD CAM Automotive is a big success story for Coventry and its exciting plans for the future paves the way for the creation of hundreds of new jobs for our area."
