Carbon neutral jacket launched in Italy

Carbon neutral jacket launched in Italy

Moncler says its new down jacket is made with materials derived from castor beans.  The fabric, lining, buttons and zips are all manufactured from the plant.

The Italian based company says the development has come as a result of its research into solutions with a low environmental impact.

The castor plant, says Moncler, is a sustainable and renewable source: it does not affect food supply as it is cultivated in arid regions not intended for agriculture, and it requires extremely small amounts of water to grow. Castor beans are a raw material that further allow for a 30% reduction in emissions compared to a fossil origin source.

Moncler says it is also offsetting the emissions generated throughout the life cycle of the down jacket – making it carbon neutral.

The search for low-impact materials and technologies, says Moncler,  is part of its commitment to the continued integration of sustainability into its business model.
