Firmus Energy customers to be hit by 12% gas hike

Firmus Energy customers to be hit by 12% gas hike

Around 87,000 households and small businesses in Northern Ireland are to see gas prices increase by 12%.

Firmus Energy said those living in the Ten Towns area will be affected by the hike from 1st October, with their bills increasing by around £75 a year.

The price hike will come into effect for Greater Belfast customers from 4th October and bills will rise by £65 annually.

It is the energy company's second price rise this year, with the previous one announced in March.

The Utility Regulator said the main reason for the increase is the “significant rise” in global gas costs - which make up the largest portion of customer bills – and a small increase in the cost of transmission charges.

Michael Scott, Managing Director of Firmus Energy said: “We know that price stability is important for our customers and regrettably this increase is unavoidable. Firmus Energy continually monitors and reviews its tariffs to ensure customers are getting the best prices possible.”
