Hyundai and Audi team up on hydrogen car technology

Hyundai and Audi are teaming up to collaborate on hydrogen car technology.

Under the terms of the new deal, the companies will be able to access each other’s intellectual property and share components and technology.

This will include any new parts developed by Audi, which is responsible for hydrogen fuel cell technology in the Volkswagen Group.

Hyundai hopes the move will create greater demand for its hydrogen fuel cell vehicles such as the ix35 model, while bringing down costs to make the technology more profitable.

The firms suggest progress and adoption in the field has historically been held back by a lack of infrastructure.

Euisun Chung, Vice Chairman at Hyundai Motor Company, said: "This agreement is another example of Hyundai’s strong commitment to creating a more sustainable future whilst enhancing consumers’ lives with hydrogen-powered vehicles, the fastest way to a truly zero-emission world.
