The City of London Corporation has pledged to source 100% of its electricity from renewable sources starting this October.
The organisation, which is the governing body of the financial and commercial district Square Mile, plans to invest in both onsite and offsite renewable energy as well as buy green power currently available on the market.
It already generates green power at a number of its sites, including the Parliament Hill Lido on Hampstead Heath and The Warren in Epping Forest.
Catherine McGuinness, Chairman of the City of London Corporation’s Policy and Resources Committee said: “Sourcing 100% renewable energy will make us cleaner and greener, reducing our grid reliance and running some of our buildings on zero carbon electricity.
“This is a big step for the City Corporation and it demonstrates our commitment to making us a more socially and environmentally responsible business.”
