Tesla-Vestas team up for $160m solar, wind, storage project

Construction of a $160 million (£94.8m) project combining solar, wind and storage is set to begin in Australia as it reached financial close.

Tesla will be providing the battery storage while Vestas will supply 12 turbines for the Kennedy Energy Park, which will be connected to the national electricity network via a single connection point.

The hybrid facility, claimed to be the world's first of its kind, will consist of 43.2MW wind, 15MW solar and 4MWh of battery storage technology – the combination is expected to provide reliable power supply as renewable generation is intermittent.

It will generate enough electricity to supply more than 35,000 average Australian homes every year.

The project is owned by Kennedy Energy Park Holdings, a joint venture between Windlab and Eurus Energy Holdings Corporation of Japan.

It is expected to be fully operational before the end of 2018.
