DONG Energy partners on flexible gas plants

DONG Energy has signed an agreement with a gas power firm to help balance production and consumption in the UK grid.

The Danish firm, which has recently announced a name change to Ørsted, will partner with Gas Power Developments and project developer GAM Capital for the operation of three 6MW flexible gas peaking plants.

The Prestige House, Newhouse and Clay Flatts facilities are located in Lancashire and Cumbria in the north-west of the UK.

DONG Energy will turn the plants on and off and adjust the volume of electricity produced based on changes in energy demand and production.

Søren Scherfig, Head of DONG Energy Markets, said: "This agreement represents an opportunity for us to create new value propositions to flexible generators outside of the traditional market.

"The agreement also helps us continue to build our position in the UK market and proves how gas peaking plants, wind power and consumers can work together."
