UK launches ecological research with Chile

A fund set up by the UK Government has launched a regional biodiversity programme with Chile.

The Newton Fund has launched two programmes - one will consist of an international research placement while the other will involve organising workshops.

Both elements of the programme aim to bring together early-career researchers from the UK and Chile, as well as Mexico, Colombia, Brazil, Peru and Argentina, to allow them to make international connections and improve the quality of their research.

Their work will focus on understanding habitats and species, encouraging sustainable livelihoods, mitigating climate change, maintaining ecosystems and restoring natural capital.

Researchers can apply for an exchange between one and three months in duration.

Grants will be made available so early-career researchers in the UK and the partner countries may attend workshops and participate in the sessions.
