Siemens Gamesa to deliver 50MW of wind energy across Germany

Siemens Gamesa to deliver 50MW of wind energy across Germany

Siemens Gamesa is to deliver 16 turbines for four onshore wind projects in Germany, providing a total capacity of 50MW.

The projects in Schleswig-Holstein, Lower Saxony and Saxony-Anhalt are all due to be commissioned in 2017.

A 149-metre-tall 3.2MW turbine will replace an older model installed in 2002 near Bredstedt in Northern Frisia.

To make it visible to aircraft from a nearby landing strip, sensors will turn night identification lights on automatically when planes are detected.

Another four wind turbines will be installed at the Süderauerdorf wind project, located on both sides of the planned extension of the A20 motorway near Glückstadt.

Further north in Schleswig-Holstein, the community wind farm Brebek GmbH & Co. KG is installing seven turbines in its second construction phase.

These turbines will have special electromagnetic shielding since the site is situated close to a German army radio station.

Siemens Gamesa will also extend GETEC Green Energy AG's Zerbst wind farm in Saxony-Anhalt with four 3.6MW turbines.

Chris Döhring, CEO of GETEC Green Energy AG, said: "With Siemens Gamesa, we have found a strong and reliable partner with whom we will manage the challenges of the energy transition.

"With the expansion of Zerbst wind farm, we will walk on the path towards a clean, resource friendly and regionally independent energy supply."
