New energy park in Hull to spark 1,000 jobs

A new energy park being developed in Hull could bring 1,000 jobs to the area.

IBM, Vodafone and SSE are among a list of high profile companies backing the £200 million Yorkshire Energy Park, which is being built on part of the former Hedon Aerodome in Saltend.

The facility will use both on-site and off-site energy sources, along with a primary sub-station, to generate clean electricity for the centre, with excess being fed into the national grid.

It will also feature a high-tech data centre and an education building to teach people about renewables and emerging energy technologies.

The development is expected to generate 120 construction jobs per year over its decade of construction.

Lord Haskins, Chairman of the of the Humber Local Economic Partnership, said: "This is a great day for the Humber.

"The number of new jobs proposed is transformational and the level of private sector investment and community engagement already undertaken by the joint venture team and their end users, is further tangible evidence that the Humber is an attractive proposition for investors."
