Swindon businesses hit the gas with new hydrogen cars

Businesses in Swindon have today taken delivery of new hydrogen cars as part of a government scheme.

Arval, Nationwide and the National Trust have taken delivery of two Toyota Mirais and a Hyundai ix35 as part of the town's Hydrogen Hub fuel cell technology project.

The zero emission vehicles, which will be used as company pool cars, have been purchased with the help of a £150,000 grant from the Office of Low Emission Vehicles.

The same programme recently helped the Science Museum Trust buy two Toyota Mirais, which have a range of more than 300 miles.

Clare Jackson, Hydrogen Hub Manager said: "Swindon is fast becoming one of the leading localities for hydrogen and fuel cell technologies and we’re delighted to see these new vehicles arriving in the town.

"Hydrogen technologies offer local communities clean sustainable energy for buildings and transportation and it’s great to see Swindon businesses leading the way."

The world record for solar hydrogen production has been broken.
