New 100% green supplier sails into UK energy market

An 100% green energy supplier has today entered the UK energy market.

Fischer Energy joins more than 40 other power providers jostling for position, its arrival coming only two months after the collapse of small firm GB Energy UK.

The company hopes to sign up 40,000 customers to its only offering, a variable tariff, in its first year - they will be supplied with 100% renewable power bought primarily from Danish wind giant DONG Energy.

Its main competitors are likely to be Good Energy and Ecotricity, two other 100% clean suppliers.

The family owned business, which is based in Leicester with 25 employees, said it would not risk ending up like GB Energy UK by entering into a 'race to the bottom' on prices.

Fischer’s Chief Executive Keith Bastian said he had been motivated to start the company because of the inequality of multiple tariffs, saying that offering a single tariff would reduce confusion.

He said: "That will in effect put the customer first - they can buy the energy knowing it’ll be a fair price. It won’t be the cheapest, we can’t guarantee that but it will be fair."

He added: "Green energy is the only way forward. Burning carbon fuels is not the solution."
