Vattenfall seeks scientists for €3m offshore wind research

Vattenfall has launched a €3 million (£2.57m) research programme into the environmental impact of offshore wind.

The programme will be hosted at the developer’s European Offshore Wind Deployment Centre (EOWDC) with up to half of the funding coming from the EU.

A panel made up of specialists in the field is calling on scientists to apply for funding to study the environment around the 11-turbine wind farm at the facility.

The panelists include Vattenfall, Aberdeen Renewable Energy Group, RSPB Scotland and The Crown Estate.

Adam Ezzamel, Project Director for the EOWDC, said: “In-depth scientific research and monitoring in a real-time environment is recognised as vital to maximising the learning opportunities for the offshore wind sector.

“We are working collaboratively with a number of key environmental agencies to allocate the research budget and look forward to working closely with the successful parties to facilitate exceptional science.”

The closing date for initial applications is midnight 2 September 2016.
