‘More women needed to help meet global energy challenges’

More women are needed in the global energy industry to help meet climate and power challenges.

That was the message of US Deputy Energy Secretary Elizabeth Sherwood-Randall at a roundtable discussion hosted by the Energy Institute (EI) and POWERful Women in London.

The numbers of women in STEM careers are significantly lower across the globe and expanding the talent pool is critical to the energy sector, according to the EI.

It adds CEOs should be taking the lead in maintaining a better balanced workforce by encouraging more women to take up careers in energy at all levels.

Ms Sherwood-Randall said: "If we are going to meet our global climate and energy challenges and develop and deploy the clean energy technologies that will power the world of tomorrow, we need to inspire more young people and more women to get involved in this dynamic field – in both the public and private sectors."
