UK generated 23.2TWh of green electricity

The UK generated 23.2TWh of electricity from renewable sources in the first quarter (Q1) of 2016.

That’s a 6.4% increase compared to the same period in 2015, according to new figures released by DECC.

It added the share of electricity generation from green sources was 25.1% - an increase of 2.3% from the same period last year.

Solar generation rose by 41% to 1.3TWh while biomass increased by 29% to 5.6TWh.

However, wind generation declined by 2.5% to 11.6TWh due to lower wind speeds, DECC stated.

Electricity generated from onshore wind fell by 11% to 6.4TWh but offshore production increased by 10% to 5.1TWh.
