Green professionals ‘happy with healthy salaries’

Environment and sustainability professionals are some of the most satisfied workers.

Around eight out of 10 “green” professionals find their jobs personally, professionally and financially rewarding, the Institute of Environmental Management Assessment (IEMA) revealed.

Its report shows 82% out of 1,047 people surveyed are happy with their career as salaries are on the rise and are markedly ahead of the average national income.

It also found workers in the sector are highly qualified and keep their knowledge up-to-date, employer support for personal development is high and the nature of the work is rewarding.

The average earnings for a professional in the sector totalled £43,812 last year – 58% above the national average wage of £27,600, according to the IEMA.

Tim Balcon, CEO of IEMA said: “This is a group of people who really bring their best to their work and the ability to make a difference is proving to be as satisfying as it is rewarding. The number of our members who feel very happy with their careers is up 11% in just one year which I think is proof that this is a profession that is heading in the right direction and fast."
