Businesses commit to deliver ultra low energy buildings

A group of European businesses have committed to deliver ultra low energy buildings.

The ‘Moving towards net zero buildings’ initiative was proposed by the Prince of Wales’ Corporate Leaders Group in Paris at COP21.

It aims to help deliver ‘nearly zero energy buildings’ (nZEB) for new build by 2020 and refurbished buildings by 2030.

Heathrow, British Land, Lloyd’s Banking Group and Tesco are four of the 16 organisations that have committed to the scheme.

Sandrine Dixson-Declève, Director of The Prince of Wales’s Corporate Leaders Group, said: “Better energy efficiency of buildings will put us on a low carbon pathway while improving the productivity of the economy as a whole. It offers a new business opportunity in its own right.

"The inconsistent performance of the building sector to date in improving energy efficiency highlights the need for a more focused and concerted approach."

Other announcements made in Paris are an international alliance to boost solar in the tropic countries or Mission Innovation, former Global Apollo Programme.
