Surrey water works to receive £22m upgrade

A water treatment plant in Surrey is recieving a £22 million upgrade and redevelopment.

Sutton and East Surrey Water (SESW) will create a new drainage lagoon for its Woodmansterne Water Treatment near Outwood Lane, Chipstead.

The project aims to help secure water supplies for customers throughout its supply area, particularly during periods of low rainfall or drought.

It is expected to boost output capacity by around 50%, helping SESW to meet water supply demand as the local population increases.

It is set to start the redevlopment at the beginning of 2016. The overall construction project is expected to take around three years to complete.

A treatment plant in Lancashire was contaminated last week however United Utilities said it would compensite those affected.
