Waste operator fined £19,000 for illegal site

A waste operator has been ordered to pay £19,000 for running an illegal site in Lincolnshire.

Barry Patchett failed to apply for the right permits despite advice and guidance from the Environment Agency between 2010 and 2013.

The Lincoln Magistrates Court was told no application had ever been received and several failed attempts were made by officers to carry out a full site inspection.

A forced entry was eventually made in September last year with the help of Lincolnshire Police.

More than 9,000 tonnes of waste was found on the land at Tetney in Grimsby, including demolition materials and green waste, the Agency said.

Toni Storr, Environment Agency Officer added: “Waste crime is a serious offence. It can damage the environment, blight local communities and undermine those who operate legally.”
