IKEA Group said it will widen sales of home rooftop solar panels from Britain to eight other countries in Europe.
The Swedish furniture retailer, which currently sells solar panels at its 18 UK stores, will be offering the home systems in the Netherlands next month and in Switzerland by the end of the year.
Six other countries will follow in the next 18 months, however IKEA hasn’t revealed the names.
Peter Agnefjäll, the IKEA Group President and CEO said: “We know that our customers want to save energy and live more sustainably at home but we believe they shouldn’t spend more money or time to do so. That is why we are determined to make sustainability both affordable and attractive to as many people as possible.”
The company has also pledged for all plastic material used in its home furnishing products to be 100% renewable or recycled by 2020 and set a target of generating 100% of its energy through renewable sources by 2020.
