Editorial – Energy Live 2013 a big thank you!

Yesterday our second Energy Live conference was hailed a success. More than 450 people packed into the London Film Museum in Covent Garden for a very different kind of conference based on a range of activities built around a central stage.

From packed out seminar sessions, to speed dating with industry experts at our Energy Bar, to the plethora of amazing headline speakers on our main stage and even our light-hearted energy based "Cool Wall", the feedback has been fantastic. We hoped to create an event that was built around the energy manager but also for those who wanted to debate the key political issues around energy and I believe we did this.

Networking was the order of the day and with every kind of taste catered for we achieved our ambition of allowing the delegate to pick and choose content that was relevant to them at a time that suited.

I would like to offer a heartfelt thanks to all our speakers especially to Angela Knight who stepped into the breech and delivered a barnstorming session on the importance of the energy industry to UK plc. Former DECC man Jonathan Brearley explained the history of EMR and the thinking about this central of all energy policies.

Chris Faulkner, the CEO of Breitling Oil and Gas was the star of the show and I would like to say it was a pleasure to have such an honest discussion over Fracking with him. He provided a different, positive view on the impact of shale gas and we at ELN have always wanted to represent all sides of the argument.

It is what we do and what I am proud to say makes us different.

And laughter rang loud and true over the networking drinks as Robert Llewellyn delivered a hilarious take on the energy world as he sees it. He closed the show on a huge high and donated his fee to the NSPCC, the true mark of a real star.

A huge thanks to the Headline sponsors, EY, Kingspan Energy and Schneider Electric and all our supporting sponsors without whom we could not have put on the event. We are grateful for their belief in us and continued support.

And finally a massive thanks to the ELN team who know they make us what we are. Over the coming days we will provide plenty of video reports and stories from the conference so those of you who missed it can see highlights from the day.
