Britain’s first open access Bio-LNG filling station (pictured) has officially been opened today.
The pump in Daventry will allow gas-powered or dual fuel trucks to use Bio-LNG, a blend of 25% Liquefied Biomethane and 75% Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG).
Developer Gasrec claims it is the only fuel that will help cut carbon emissions in heavy goods vehicles (HGV) and suggests it could reduce fuel costs by 20-30% and carbon dioxide by a minimum of 20%.
Doug Leaf, Gasrec Commercial Development Manager said the company’s innovation could “shrink pollution and costs” for the UK’s HGV haulage fleet.
He added: “It is a pleasure to see our service not only saving customers significant sums of money but also helping them to play their part in protecting the environment. Big haulage companies are working and investing with us because they understand this intrinsic value. This is the important first step of a journey which we have high hopes will be a national success story.”
The site at Daventry is capable of fuelling up to 250 HGVs a day in the first phase from three Bio-LNG dispensers. The second phase will increase the capacity to up to 700 vehicles.
