IKEA plugs-in its 38th US solar project

Swedish furniture retailer IKEA has officially plugged in a 590.8kW solar system at its store in Massachusetts – making it its 38th completed PV project in the US.

The 118,000 square foot array includes 4,220 panels (pictured) and is expected to produce around 695,000kWh of clean electricity and cut 479 tons of carbon dioxide every year. That is equivalent to powering 60 homes and eliminating the emissions of around 94 cars yearly.

Store Manager Frank Briel said: “We at IKEA believe in the never-ending job of improving the sustainability of our day-today business. The Stoughton co-workers are excited to help contribute to this goal with our newly operational solar energy system.”

IKEA has installed more than 250,000 solar panels on buildings across the world and owns and operates around 110 wind turbines in Europe.
