Nigerian oil explosion kills 200 people

Around 200 people were killed in an oil explosion in southern Nigeria, reports confirmed today.

The incident occurred in the southern Rivers state yesterday as people rushed to scoop up free leaking fuel where a gasoline tanker had overturned.

Sampson Parker, Rivers State Commissioner for Health told a news outlet: “I will describe this as the single worst incident that has happened to Rivers State since the Civil War.”

Reports claim the tanker skidded off the road while spilling its contents and trying to avoid a head-on collision with a nearby car.

Hundreds of people have died in similar incidents before, involving leaking oil pipelines.
