will.i.am visits Oxford to talk climate change – in a helicopter

will.i.am, founder member of hip hop group Black Eyed Peas apparently set heads turning last week when he arrived for a talk about climate change held at Oxford University – in a helicopter.

The musician and judge of TV talent show The Voice visited the academic powerhouse to talk to climate change expert Professor Myles Allen.

will.i.am said: “Climate change is confusing. It should be the thing that we all should be worried and concerned about as humans on this planet, how we affect the planet, our consumption and how we treat the place that we live in… Who is causing the confusion and why isn’t it a priority?”

The visit was part of his role as ambassador for computer firm Intel. A spokesperson for Oxford University said: “They were talking for about an hour about how we use computers to do innovative things – whether people can use climate models to understand climate change.”

The pop maestro tweeted a picture of himself sitting on his “hip.hop.copter” on the visit to the University city - although he rode to the meeting with Prof Allen on a bicycle.
